Severe Weather & Hazardous Materials Response

Delaware County consistently ranks as one of the fastest growing counties in Ohio. As an emergency responder, Sandy was part of a two-person 24/7 on-call rotation for hazardous materials spills, severe weather, and other hazards as needed. The Delaware County Homeland Security & Emergency Management on-call team was dispatched through Delaware County Emergency Communications (911).

Sandy has responded to numerous incidents over the years including several tornadoes, ice storms, hazardous materials crash scenes, environmental scenes, and provided assistance as dispatched. Sandy also maintained spill reports and public records for the agency.

Delaware County Donate a Fan Program

Established in 2012, the Delaware County Donate a Fan Program has been very successful in achieving its goal. The program was created by Sandy Mackey to help Delaware County residents who did not have the ability to purchase a box fan, the ability to have at a fan in their  home at no cost to them. Ms. Mackey collaborated with her team and local fire and EMS chiefs to use their stations as donation drop offs for fans. People in Need of Delaware County (PIN) was agreeable, and excited, to accept and distribute the donations to the residents of Delaware County. Once the word got out, the residents of Delaware County wasted no time donating hundreds of new box fans to the program. The generosity of the community was humbling. Having a fan to help beat the heat in the summer could potentially save a life, and this quickly became a team effort.
